Tackling the anti social problem

ANTI SOCIAL

We probably all have some experience of anti social behaviour in our communities. Unless you are wealthy enough to live in some of the more exclusive parts of the country. Yet for the majority we have to live in this current climate of anti socials running amok and the justice being rare.

Just recent cases we see young adults and those under 18 kill because they are bored and think it is a laugh. This is obvious that we have lost all sense of propriety when it comes to our youth. Yes drink and drugs do play their part but we must be sensible when looking at ways of dealing with the anti social.

We must have zero tolerance as a core policy in any of our communities. We must also have extreme measures when dealing with the more violent anti social. We have seen cases on television of fire emergency crews coming under attack from youths who seem hell bent on causing as much destruction as possible. Violent muggings have also increased and again we see evidence in the news of just how unprovoked and callous these attacks can be.

So what is the answer. First we introduce zero tolerance. Then in the more problematic areas we impose a curfew. By being extreme in the short term we can win the battle of the youth problem. I would propose that in the most extreme areas we arm the police with soft impact projectiles like the rubber bullet but non lethal and stun guns. When using these instruments each officer will be equipped with a live feed mini-cam to record the evidence. The mini cam could also be deployed to all emergency crews who face problems with the anti social. Each area will have a 24 hour mobile magistrate / judge who will pass out an immediate sentence.

Quick and effective public humiliation may be the best way of tackling the undesirable. I am confident by being tough like this will reduce the anti social problem quickly and effectively. By acting swiftly we will begin to make the people causing the problems think before acting and that is the first step in wining back confidence in our society.

Equally we have to accept a certain amount of responsibility that many of our youths feel lost in our society. So by offering pro active solutions may be the best option. After school clubs and youth centres must be able to offer more than a pool table or games room. Top psychologists will tell you that by engaging the young on their terms is the best way forward in any child growing up to be well adjusted. The education of a child is also important to teach them to have respect for others and especially the older generation who have real concerns about being on the street.

Zero tolerance is the only way forward.
